2016 marks the 150th anniversary of Siebold's death, and in commemoration of that, from September 13th to December 4th, at the National Science Museum in Ueno (Tokyo), "Siebold opened the nature of Japan to the world." The exhibition was held. This book was planned and published as a book related to the exhibition. Since no catalog has been published in the exhibition, this book can be said to be the only publication commemorating the exhibition.
The study of Siebold and Siebold's natural history collection is said to have progressed rapidly over the last decade or so, and the results of such research are reflected in this book. This is a good book for understanding the role played by Siebold from the historical point of view of Japanese natural research.
